This concept was created for FedEx as an addition to the internal communication, to increase the workflow and give the employees the feeling of ‘being involved’.

My role a designer

For FedEx I was given the task to think of a new innovative way of  communicating directly with employees. In order to develop a fully working prototype I have used the ‘Double Diamond’, also known as diverge & converge.

In order to create a suitable solution, I’ve used different research strategies such as ‘Day in the Life’, ‘Customer Journey’. ‘Persona’, ‘Interviews’, ‘Ideation’, ‘Co-Creation’, ‘Biometrics’, ‘Test Reports’ and more.

At FedEx, every new employee is assigned with a buddy. A buddy at FedEx is a real person with several years of work experience. The buddy accompanies you during your first months and helps you with tasks such as; your first project, questions about FedEx, questions about working methods, etc. After a few months your buddy slowly turns into your colleague as you’re ready for the real work.

 

This inspired me to design the virtual buddy, called (Fe)’DEX’. DEX supports you when company organizational information is being shared. 

“How can you, through a digital interactive communication tool, give FedEx employees the feeling of being involved, when company organizational information is being shared, whereby the personal connection is strengthened.”

Customer Journey

To get a better understanding of the targer group, I’ve created a customer journey about the day in the life of a Sales Professional at FedEx. This gave me valuable insights about how their regular day-to-day life would look like. 

To get a better understanding of which communication tools Sales Professional at FedEx use, I’ve taken the weekly newsletter as a reference. This Customer Journey gave me valuable insights on how the average Sales Professional uses the weekly newsletter.

Persona

After gaining key insights from users, I’ve created a persona who will lead me throughout the rest of the design process as her story will shape the product into excisting.

Visual design

The target users of this project were looking for a user friendly experience design that looks soft to the eye. This will help them stay orginazed while exploring the app. I designed the visual language in soft colors that will communicate the whishes and needs from the target user.
